“Marina Sundown” by Barron Postmus is among the new art to be shown at Solvang Antiques Small Works Show beginning November 22.

November 21, 2014 —Solvang Antiques and the Judith Hale Gallery invite you to the opening of their Holiday “Small Works” art show. The exhibit opens November 22nd and will run through December. A reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, November 29th, from 1-5PM.

Many new works of art have been added to the collection of beautiful paintings regularly exhibited by the gallery. Local favorite, Dave DeMatteo, has a number of wonderful Santa Ynez Valley subjects for holiday gift giving. Dirk Foslien has recently completed a series on moonrises, which are stunning views of the evening sky. Barron Postmus has some spectacular paintings of sunsets, while Gene Register has added to his exotic bird depictions.

Scheduled on Saturdays from 1-5PM during the holiday season are artist demonstrations. The artists participating in this year’s events are Nancy Phelps, Sheryl Knight, Lou Mariani, and Dee Prater. Phelps, a popular local artist known for her works in both watercolor and oil, will be here on November 29th. Following her on December 6th will be Knight who has been receiving great recognition for her plein air style, with many awards recently added to her credentials and level of juried competitions.

Mariani is a Santa Barbara-based stone sculptor with an impressive collection and style. This year he has a new bear, called “Artic Bear,” done in alabaster, and a Water Buffalo carved in verdite, a green South African stone. He provides interesting answers to the question, “how do you do that?” You can visit with Lou on December 13th. Our final demonstration will be held on December 20th, with Dee Prater, an equine sculptor who works in bronze or her process she calls “lamina,” which is a type of paper-mache.

All of these fine artists and many more have provided unique works for the Small Works opening. Please visit to see the collections, including Western, antique, and the whimsical and humorous dog sculptures by Marty Goldstein.
