The above painting by Frank Caldwell is staff member Kathy's choice for this month. "This California artist was born in 1911. He was involved in the entertainment industry and designed murals for the Pasadena Playhouse, and created art for NBC Opera series and the Perry Como show," she says. "This beautiful painting reminds me of a Maui harbor scene with the lush green hills in the background. Frank Caldwell was also a United States Marine Artist and clearly loved anything nautical."
Below is Michael's pick for June, a unique garniture clock. "I'm a big fan of Art Deco, and this is classic Art Deco with the geometrically designed components that make up the basic clock & side pieces. Add to that the beautiful pale lavender marble juxtaposed with black marble and the bronze hunting dog on top, and you have a great addition to a gentleman's library or den."
Misty's June Staff Pick is a beautiful vintage wall mirror. "This ornate French mirror is awe-inspiring," Misty says. "The extreme relief of the exquisite carving sets it apart from all other mirrors I have encountered. This monumental gesso mirror will be an outstanding centerpiece for your wall."
Gallery curator Judith's choice is a watercolor by Merv Corning. "This painting is absolutely beautiful! The composition and color are stunning in a magnificent view of the Santa Ynez Valley," she says. "It seems that you could feel the roughness of the bark of this old tree. I am pleased to exhibit this painting for Valley Vistas."
Staff member Vida chose a stunning secretary desk. "My June staff pick is this exceptional American secretary and roll top desk, circa 1820 by J & JW Meeks of New York. This desk has distinctive, intricate fretwork, and is a grand, pleasing statement piece for your home!"
