About Marguerite Kirmse
Marguerite Kirmse was born in Bournemouth, England in 1885. She showed an early talent for music and later attended The Royal Academy of Music in London. A summer in the United States convinced her to stay and turn to her second love, art. She became known for her pencil sketches, pastels and oils of animals.
Etchings were Kirmse’s forte and from 1921 until her death in 1954, Marguerite Kirmse executed at least 82 titles depicting everything from Scottish Terriers to Pekingese. In the 1920s she turned to sculpture and produced a series of miniatures of dogs in bronze.
