About Cesare Auguste Detti
Born in Spoleto, Italy, Detti was a student of Mariano Fortuny, an artist known internationally for his brilliant technique and bold colors. Detti enjoyed world fame for his brilliant depiction of fine and flamboyant costumes in his paintings. His “costume pictures” paintings were of subjects used mostly for the picturesque treatment, usually in the age when dresses were a distinctive part of rank in society. Detti intrigued a refined, erudite audience with his works. In the 1870s he moved to Paris, where he participated at many Salons and was continuously successful. His art is housed in many museums throughout Europe.
