Antique American Regina coin operated 15.5 inch disc music box, dated October 29, 1895. This Regina disc music box has an oak case with original finish and fine rope beading. It is coin operated by US pennies. The Regina music box has a double comb mechanism, which provides a full bodied, rich sound. The antique music box is powered by a spring wound hand crank deluxe motor. The Regina coin op music box includes 10 original discs and US Indian Head pennies minted from 1890-1908. The original Regina instructions sheet in on the interior of the lid. This antique disc music box was made in Rahway, NJ.
About Regina
The first disc music box company to go into mass production was Symphonion in Leipzig, Germany. The new industry was quickly growing and had a huge potential in America, so Symphonion sent a group of employees over to establish the Regina Music Box Company in Rahway, NJ, in 1892. This new disc music box was very popular as it allowed the owner to continually purchase new songs for their music box.
