J & JW Meeks of New York City was a quality firm that created fine furniture from 1797-1869.

Due to the protectionist policies passed by Congress and the War of 1812, the South was cut off from European imports, resulting in the rising demand for European quality goods to come from the North. These needs were recognized by Meeks. Most New York furniture makers were simply shipping their goods, but Meeks chose to make short trips personally delivering their goods to those clients in the South.

John and Joseph W. Meeks of New York have furniture in many museums including the Art Institute of Chicago, The Columbus Museum and the Historic New Orleans Collection, among others.
