Lighting

From a Steuben chandelier to Tiffany lamps, we have the lighting you’ve been looking for. The perfect Art Nouveau lamp for your nightstand or the exquisite crystal chandelier for your entry are waiting for you at Solvang Antiques.

Chandeliers are our most popular category of antique lighting. The first chandeliers were used in the homes of medieval kings and then spread to churches and homes of the wealthy. The chandelier was seen as a luxury and symbol of status due the high cost of nighttime illumination. In addition, you will find a unique selection of candelabra and wall sconces perfect for your home.

In the early 18th century cast chandeliers with candles began filtering into the homes of the middle class. As glassmaking improved later in the century, lead crystal became cheaper to produce. The refractive properties of the crystal were a popular addition to the chandelier and the crystal chandelier was born.

By the 1890’s, electricity started being added to gas chandeliers. As electricity spread and became more reliable, chandeliers began being produced solely with electricity.

Many of the chandeliers and lamps you will find at Solvang Antiques have been converted to electricity, but for those particular collectors we still have oil lamps available as well.
