This
is an English nine tubular bell, quarter chiming hall clock with
serpentine form brass dial by Elliott of London. It has an ornately
carved mahogany case with marquetry inlays and pierced fretwork
over glass. The three train, weight driven movement plays your choice
of Westminster or Whittington chimes on nine tubular bells. The
single glass jar mercury pendulum provides temperature compensation
for exceptional accuracy. It comes with a one year warranty.
This clock represents one of the grandest interpretations of the
Elliott tubular bell hall clocks ever produced. This genre of hall
clock embodies the High Victorian style of unrestrained ornament
and superb craftsmanship.
In addition to the high intrinsic value and rarity of this model,
its importance is further enhanced by an interesting provenance.
The previous owner was Seth Atwood, who purchased this clock for
his world famous Time Museum of Rockford, Illiniois. We acquired
this when the museum collection was disbursed.
