| Our
featured clock of the month is a remarkably well-preserved
table clock of unusual origin and elegant design. While
most table clocks are of German origin, this clock was made
by Clos Wolpher, a highly respected clockmaker in Dalarna,
Sweden around 1730.
The case and finely engraved movement retain their original
dore gold finish accented by a champleve sterling silver dial
and sculptured, blued steel hands.
The highly decorated chain
driven fusee movement strikes the hours on a resonant 3-1/4" diameter
bell with repeat at will. The glass panels on all four
sides display the refinement of the movement and crown wheel
escapement.
Upon opening the base of the clock the viewer is presented with
exceptional decorative engravings on the bridge and a tribute
inscribed in Latin.
Both the dial and backplate of the movement bear the maker's
signature.
