| This month we are
pleased to offer a very unusual and stunning clock by an important
maker. We have never seen another clock of this design motif
and suspect it could be one of a kind.
The case is translucent brown tortoise shell inlaid with ivory. The movement
is exceptional, in that it is an early example by Louis Gabriel Brocot, the founder
of the Brocot Clockmaker Dynasty of France. The two train movement runs for 8
days on a winding and strikes the hours and half hours on a bell. The seconds
dial incorporates the jeweled Brocot escapement and beats half seconds. The silvered
dial is signed by the retailer, Bataille Aine.
It is 19-1/2" high, 9-1/4" wide and 6-1/2" deep.
This was made between 1830 and 1840 and is conservatively priced at $9,750.
